A nine-year-old boy was killed last night when gun­men opened fire in En­ter­prise, Ch­agua­nas.

Po­lice said Jo­mol “MJ” Mod­este was shot in his back around 8 pm while he and oth­er chil­dren were run­ning to es­cape a bar­rage of gun­shots at the African Recre­ation Ground.

Res­i­dents of the area said gun­men hi­jacked a bread van from a near­by bak­ery and sped in­to the sa­van­nah and start­ed dis­charg­ing their weapons for no par­tic­u­lar rea­son.

Jo­mol was rushed to the Ch­agua­nas Health Fa­cil­i­ty but suc­cumbed to his in­juries.

Jo­mol was a Stan­dard Two pupil of the Cara­pichaima RC School.
