Fatally stabbed four times in the neck during a home invasion in Couva on Saturday, Amina Mohammed had no chance of survival during a home invasion.
She had been dishing out dinner for her family at their Nancy Street, Couva when the knife-wielding thieves stormed in just after 7 pm on Saturday.
Mohammed, 68, was in the kitchen when the thieves cut the lights.
Her husband Nazem Mohammed told police he was sitting on the couch in the living room area when he heard a loud noise near the front door.
The suspects dressed in dark-coloured clothing entered. One thief had a respirator covering his face while the other had a covering with an orange bandana. They then tied up Nazem and demanded cash and jewellery.
The thieves claimed that a relative owed $140,000 for over three years now. Police said five minutes later, both suspects left. Some time later Nazem managed to free himself and found his wife dead on the bed with stab wounds to the neck.
He called his son Ahmad Saleem Mohammed who alerted the police. Neighbours rushed the bleeding Mohammed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be done at the Forensic Science Centre on Monday.
