The own­er of a food mart in Pe­tit Val­ley was beat­en to death dur­ing a rob­bery on Tues­day, where his wife was al­so phys­i­cal­ly as­sault­ed.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, just af­ter mid­day Alec Wang Kwok Yip, 72, and his wife were at their busi­ness place, Alec’s Food Mart, at the cor­ner of Morne Co­co Road and Palm Av­enue, when three masked men en­tered and an­nounced a rob­bery.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice the ban­dits tied up the cou­ple and pro­ceed­ed to beat them be­fore tak­ing cash and valu­ables.

The ban­dits then es­caped.

The woman man­aged to un­tie her­self and called the po­lice, who re­spond­ed to the call and ar­rived at the store and saw Yip with in­juries to the face and body.

Emer­gency health work­ers took him to the St James In­fir­mary, where he was pro­nounced dead.
