Businessman charged with receiving stolen Govt items

A busi­ness­man is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Ch­agua­nas Mag­is­trate to­day, charged with re­ceiv­ing stolen items be­long­ing to the Min­istry of Works and Trans­port (MOWT).

Sum­it Chad­ha, 32, of Ch­agua­nas, was charged with the of­fence on Thurs­day, af­ter be­ing ar­rest­ed at his Cunu­pia busi­ness place on Wednes­day.

This fol­lows an in­ten­sive po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the re­port of a quan­ti­ty of iron ma­te­ri­als be­ing stolen from the MOWT com­pound in Ca­roni, dur­ing the pe­ri­od Fri­day 29th Ju­ly, 2022 and Tues­day 2nd Au­gust, 2022.

Based on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to a scrap iron busi­ness in the Cunu­pia dis­trict, where they suc­cess­ful­ly re­cov­ered the stolen ma­te­ri­als on Wednes­day 3rd Au­gust, 2022.

The ac­cused and one oth­er per­son were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the mat­ter.
