The body of a man known to the police as "Babooji" of Orange Field Road, Carapichaima, was found in an abandoned vehicle at Sevilla Road on Saturday.
The man, who is of mixed descent, was found with a bullet hole to his head and slumped over the steering wheel of a grey Toyota Corolla that was abandoned below a tree in the vicinity of Basta Hall Road near the Sevilla Golf Course.
Police said the body was discovered around 10.15 am by a passerby. They said the man was known to the police, and they believe it was probably a deal gone wrong. A team from the Couva Police Station led by Cpl Umaid visited the scene. Homicide South is investigating.
Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh said crime is on the rise in Couva South. He pointed to the recent killing of businessmen Allan Babwah and John Henry who were killed in separate home invasions. Indarsingh said the Freeport and Couva Police stations have less than 50 per cent of the manpower needed and the vehicles are breaking down.
