Dr. Carla Barnett, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), is remembering Sir Shridath Ramphal, calling him ” stalwart of our Community.”
In a statement, Dr. Barnett honored Sir Shridath’s distinguished career in diplomacy, law, academia, and politics. She highlighted his significant impact both in his native Guyana and throughout the Caribbean and the Commonwealth.
Dr. Barnett praised Sir Shridath’s dedication to regionalism, noting his practical contributions, including his leadership of the West Indian Commission, which produced the influential 1992 report “Time for Action.” She also acknowledged his role as head of the CARICOM Regional Negotiating Machinery in external trade negotiations.
Among his many honors, Sir Shridath received the Order of the Caribbean Community in 1992, the Region’s highest award, recognising his exceptional contributions.
