Stan­dard four pupil Tashia Thomas was look­ing for­ward to the first day of school yes­ter­day.

How­ev­er, she was left dis­ap­point­ed be­cause class­es were called off af­ter teach­ers heed­ed the call by their union, the T&T Uni­fied Teach­ers As­so­ci­a­tion (TTUTA), to "rest and re­flect" on Mon­day 5 Sep­tem­ber 2022.

“I want­ed to see my new class­room, but to­day I’m get­ting to see my new class­room and I’m get­ting to see my class­mates and the same teach­ers I had be­fore,” she shared with Guardian Me­dia, just be­fore en­ter­ing St. Patrick’s New­town Girls RC School.

Things re­turned to nor­mal for schools to­day, Tues­day, Sep­tem­ber 6.

“As far as we know, every­thing should be back to nor­mal from to­day," Ner­is­sa Kan­chan told Guardian Me­dia as she dropped off her son at Rich­mond Street Boys’ An­gli­can School.

Many oth­er par­ents were al­so con­fi­dent of things go­ing back to nor­mal to­day, when drop­ping off their chil­dren at their schools on the first day of class­es, af­ter yes­ter­day's dis­rup­tions across the coun­try.
