A 43-year-old Coast Guard of­fi­cer drowned in Las Cuevas yes­ter­day morn­ing.

Kevin Wal­cott went to the pop­u­lar beach with a group of rel­a­tives and co-work­ers. Short­ly af­ter 9.30 am, he got in­to dif­fi­cul­ties while swim­ming and was pulled out of the wa­ter by two vil­lagers.

Life­guards at­tempt­ed to re­sus­ci­tate Wal­cott but were un­suc­cess­ful. He was tak­en to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival.

Wal­cott, who had been a mem­ber of the Coast Guard for al­most two decades, most re­cent­ly per­formed ad­min­is­tra­tive du­ties.

Fol­low­ing news of his pass­ing trib­utes poured in from friends, col­leagues and rel­a­tives on so­cial me­dia.
