Po­lice of­fi­cers in the South­ern Di­vi­sion seized a high-pow­ered ri­fle and a quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion dur­ing a firearm in­ter­dic­tion ex­er­cise con­duct­ed in the St. Mar­garet’s and Mara­bel­la dis­tricts yes­ter­day (Mon­day, Au­gust 29).

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the Po­lice Ser­vice, the ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed be­tween 4 pm and 10 pm on Mon­day. 

Re­ports are that of­fi­cers re­ceived in­tel­li­gence that led them to a bushy area at Dol­ly Street, Mara­bel­la.  They searched the area and dis­cov­ered an AR-15 ri­fle, which was fit­ted with a mag­a­zine loaded with three rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.

The Po­lice Ser­vice al­so is re­port­ing that sev­er­al li­censed scrap iron deal­ers, com­pounds and ve­hi­cles were searched in the Clax­ton Bay dis­trict.

The ex­er­cis­es were co­or­di­nat­ed by Snr. Supt. Smith, ASP Jaikaran and In­sp. Phillip and in­clud­ed of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force.
