Police are investigating another incident where its tactical wear has fallen into the hands of criminals.
The latest incident stemmed from a 22-second video shared on social media, in which a man recorded himself smoking while wearing a blue police jacket. The jacket also had the police insignia on the sleeve and the detachable “Police” insignia on the chest.
Senior police officers confirmed that the man seen was not a member of the police service and they were investigating how he came into possession of the uniform.
Last year, Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher ordered that only three sections of the police service could wear tactical uniforms in an attempt to limit the number of people with access to them. This came after multiple reports of people wearing clothing closely resembling the uniforms and engaging in criminal activities.
At a media briefing in March, ACP Vena Butler called on citizens to assist the police in addressing the issue of criminals wearing clothing closely resembling that of police uniforms.
