An imam was arrested last weekend in relation to the kidnapping and assault of a Princes Town man has been released from police custody.
Carapo Jamaat leader Hassan Ali was released shortly after 4 pm Monday his attorney Fareed Ali confirmed.
Ali, who is the father of Rajaee Ali, who is currently befor the court in connection with the murder of Dana Seetahal SC, returned to his home in Malabar after being released by the police.
Ali, along with six others, were arrested at the Carapo mosque last Saturday following an alleged kidnapping, assault and robbery allegation made by the victim last Wednesday.
In that incident, a Princes Town man went to the Carapo mosque to meet someone, when he was confronted, beaten, placed in a vehicle and subsequently left in the O’meara Industrial Estate. The keys to the man's car were also taken during the incident.
While Ali and two others were released, three other members of the Jamaat, aged 33, 36 and 41, remain in police custody, Ali confirmed. They are expected to face identification parades.
Ali maintains that his clients know nothing of the allegations the police have claimed they allegedly committed.
