The Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce (CPLCC) is partnering with a private CCTV camera operator to help combat crime in the area.
Mukesh Ramsingh, president of the CPLCC, said subscribers to the system operated by the Citizen Surveillance Network would not have to pay for cameras or installation but a minimal monthly fee.
He spoke with Guardian Media when the Chamber held its Health and Wellness Day at the Chamber’s auditorium at Camden Road. He said the video feed would be monitored by the surveillance company and the T&T Police Service (TTPS).
Jason Valley, the spokesman for a GPS tracking company, said more people are also turning to having a GPS tracking system installed in their cars because of the rise in automotive theft and carjacking.
“We are hoping to launch this in the next three weeks. We are hoping that all businesses in and around the community would buy into this initiative since it will help to deter criminals that are giving us real problems,“ Ramsingh said.
He added that Couva is also suffering from a severe shortage of water because of the lack of pipe-borne supply. He said some businesses are unable to open because of the water shortage. “We are asking the minister to get involved,” Ramsingh told Guardian Media.
