Police have beefed-up security at the home and business establishment of UNC's nominee for Tabaquite Ravi Ratiram following the attempted kidnapping of one of his assistants. Around 10 am yesterday, the assistant was walking along the road, two buildings away from Ratiram's Gasparillo businessplace, when a heavily-tinted SUV pulled alongside.
One of the occupants attempted to drag the screaming woman into the vehicle, police said. A driver, who was behind the SUV, noticed the commotion and shouted to the woman to "run away." She escaped and made a police report. Investigators are linking the incident to another attack on the assistant on Wednesday. Police said around noon, the assistant was at Ratiram's business place when a group of men stormed in, demanding to know the whereabouts of the attorney.
In the process the employee was slapped about the face
and beaten. Investigators said before leaving, one of the men told the assistant: "Tell Ravi his days are numbered." Coincidentally, according to police, when the office of attorney Anand Ramlogan was firebombed on April 16, thieves also tried to break into Ratiram's home in South Trinidad, around noon of the same day. Yesterday Ratiram vowed to "do the work for the people," saying he would not be intimated by "such acts of thuggery."
