A 19-year-old disabled teen was stabbed to death by a close male relative at his home in Freeport on Sunday night during an argument over an electronic device.
The suspect is still at large, however, police officers have launched a manhunt for him.
Police said around 11 pm, Alex Coombs was at home with his mother and a male relative when an argument erupted. Investigators said the row turned physical and the 19-year-old was stabbed several times.
He attempted to run after being stabbed but collapsed on a chair outside the house and was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility, where he died while being treated.
Speaking with the media at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, Coombs’ mother Sabita Partap said her son loved music. She lamented how his short life ended.
Partap explained that the argument began after a tablet was taken away from Coombs and hidden after he misbehaved.
Partap added that she prepared a meal of sausage and eggs for her son but alleged that he was denied the meal by a male relative who was angry with his behaviour. She said it was then the argument escalated with the male relative reportedly pulling out a knife.
“My son was trying to take the knife away after he was choked and beaten,” Partap said.
“I saw the relative this morning by his work, but time I leave and comeback looking for him he gone. If anyone should see him call the police,” the grieving mother said. (RHONDOR DOWLAT)
