Pres­i­dent Chris­tine Kan­ga­loo is un­der­scor­ing the fact that the Hin­du fes­ti­val of Di­vali of­fers cit­i­zens an op­por­tu­ni­ty for in­tro­spec­tion and for spir­i­tu­al en­light­en­ment.

In bring­ing Di­vali greet­ings yes­ter­day, Pres­i­dent Kan­ga­loo said the joy­ful cel­e­bra­tion re­mind­ed cit­i­zens to not on­ly per­se­vere in their pur­suit of self-im­prove­ment and en­light­en­ment, but al­so of their du­ty to trans­late faith in­to ac­tion and live right­eous­ly to­wards their loved ones, neigh­bours and fel­low cit­i­zens.

The Pres­i­dent fo­cused on Lord Ram’s vic­to­ry over Ra­van, say­ing it was not on­ly a pow­er­ful sym­bol of the tri­umph of light over dark­ness and good over evil, but was al­so a poignant demon­stra­tion of the pow­er of love, courage, faith and de­vo­tion to over­come even the most for­mi­da­ble chal­lenges.

She urged cit­i­zens to prac­tice the prin­ci­ples of Di­vali every day by re­flect­ing on the con­tents of their hearts, the truth about their at­ti­tudes, and the im­pact of their ac­tions.

She said by do­ing so and by mak­ing the nec­es­sary changes in each of these ar­eas, cit­i­zens would tru­ly in­vite the spir­it of Di­vali in­to their lives, as they as­pired to the ul­ti­mate goal of choos­ing good over evil.
