President Christine Kangaloo is underscoring the fact that the Hindu festival of Divali offers citizens an opportunity for introspection and for spiritual enlightenment.
In bringing Divali greetings yesterday, President Kangaloo said the joyful celebration reminded citizens to not only persevere in their pursuit of self-improvement and enlightenment, but also of their duty to translate faith into action and live righteously towards their loved ones, neighbours and fellow citizens.
The President focused on Lord Ram’s victory over Ravan, saying it was not only a powerful symbol of the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, but was also a poignant demonstration of the power of love, courage, faith and devotion to overcome even the most formidable challenges.
She urged citizens to practice the principles of Divali every day by reflecting on the contents of their hearts, the truth about their attitudes, and the impact of their actions.
She said by doing so and by making the necessary changes in each of these areas, citizens would truly invite the spirit of Divali into their lives, as they aspired to the ultimate goal of choosing good over evil.
