Kazim Ali Jr, 36, one of the four divers killed in a tragic mishap at Paria’s Berth No 6 seabed pipeline in Pointe-a-Pierre recently, was laid to rest earlier today following a funeral service held under Muslim rites at his home in Gopaul Lands, Marabella.
Among those delivering eulogies at the small private ceremony were his sister Kate and widow Jamie.
Christopher Boodram, the only diver to survive the mishap, was among the mourners.
Following the service, the cortege went to LMCS, the company owned by Ali's family, which was contracted to do underwater maintenance work on the 30-inch pipeline, on Tarouba Road, then to the San Fernando Yacht Club where the diver, an avid sailor, kept his boat.
The funeral was originally due to take place at 1 pm on Friday but was postponed due to an administrative blunder on the death certificate. One hour before the funeral, the family was issued a notice saying the funeral had been postponed.
Ali Jr, fondly known as Bean, was the son of Kazim Ali Snr, the owner of LMCS. He had been capturing footage of the pipeline when tragedy struck.
