Pres­i­dent of the Down­town Own­ers and Mer­chants As­so­ci­a­tion (DO­MA), Gre­go­ry Aboud is throw­ing sup­port be­hind the gov­ern­ment's lat­est tar­get­ed ap­proach at ar­rest­ing the crime sit­u­a­tion.

Dur­ing an in­ter­view with Guardian Me­dia, Aboud ex­plained that the State of Emer­gency is nec­es­sary and should take spe­cif­ic aim at those be­hind the il­le­gal arms trade. 

"It will cause in­con­ve­nience to the pub­lic but it is in­tend­ed to cause greater in­con­ve­nience to the crim­i­nals in Trinidad and To­ba­go in­clud­ing any­body in high place who has been or­ches­trat­ing the im­por­ta­tion of guns and all of the dan­ger that has been brought up­on us by the ac­tions over the few years that has seen a mur­der­ous spree in Trinidad and To­ba­go. We hope what­ev­er ac­tion is tak­en is tak­en across all stra­ta of so­ci­ety and who­ev­er is re­spon­si­ble for this vol­ume of  all this weapon­ry will be brought to book."

Aboud said mem­bers of the busi­ness com­mu­ni­ty have since been ex­press­ing op­ti­mism over this lat­est ef­fort by the gov­ern­ment to peg back crim­i­nals.
