One man had to be hospitalised while a second escaped unhurt after they were ambushed after going drop off an order of doubles yesterday.
Police said Richard Ramkissoon, 31, and Brandon Baboolal, 21, of St Augustine, were fired upon in the carpark at O’Meara Plaza, O’Meara Road, Arima, around 6 am.
The two went to drop off the doubles order, valued at $600, and were met by a woman wearing a hoodie and face mask who handed over the money.
However, at the same time, a man who was seated in the backseat of the car she exited opened fire on them.
One man was shot in the chest, whilst the other managed to escape unharmed. The victims ran off in an attempt to escape further injury and were assisted by passers-by.
Officers from the Arima CID responded and took the injured man to the Arima Hospital where he underwent emergency treatment.
The wounded man was said to be in a critical condition up to yesterday.
Forensic officials recovered 20 spent shells at the scene.
Man found dead in bed
A Port-of-Spain man was found dead in his apartment on Monday evening.
The victim was identified as O’Neil Nicholas, 37, of St John Street, Laventille Road, East Dry River.
Acting on information received around 6.45 pm, police officers went to Nicholas’s apartment, where they saw his bullet-riddled body on a mattress.
The victim was identified by a female relative at the scene.
Forensic officials recovered several 5.56 mm spent shells at the scene.
