An elderly couple, who opened the door to men claiming to be police, were beaten and robbed during a home invasion early Thursday morning in Carlsen Field.
Among the items stolen was a pellet rifle. A police report said at 8 pm Wednesday, the husband, 65, and his wife, 63, locked up the house, located on a farm, and went to sleep.
Around 3 am, the sleeping couple was awakened by knocking and shouts of “police, police.”
The elderly couple opened the door and were accosted by three men, including one who had a gun.
The bandits pushed the couple inside the house and began beating them about their head and face.
They then tied both victims’ hands and robbed them of a Samsung 55-inch Smart television valued at $4,600, a pressure washer worth $1,800, a Craftsman pellet rifle worth $4,500, a Samsung A30 cellphone, and a Samsung A23 cell phone, which cost $1,700, and $6,000 in cash. The couple’s blue-coloured Toyota Corolla L-Touring wagon worth $35,000 was also stolen.
The men then went to the farm located next door, where they woke up a 40-year-old man and robbed him.
The victim’s hands were also tied up.
His Nissan vehicle, valued at $28,000, and an undisclosed number of ducks and pigs were stolen.
The suspects then sped away in the stolen vehicles.
In March, farmers and residents of Carlsen Field complained about the growing number of home invasions.
President of the Trinidad and Tobago Farmers Union Shiraz Khan said his wife, who was at home alone at the time, was robbed by armed bandits who threatened to cut off her fingers if she did not comply.
