A 32-year-old Tobago man was scheduled to appear before a Scarborough Magistrate yesterday charged for sexual touching of a child.
The offence, which is contrary to Section 18 of the Children’s Act 46:01, was reported to officers of the Tobago Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) who immediately launched an investigation spearheaded W/Superintendent (Ag.), George, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sookdeo (Ag.) and supervised by W/Sgt. Morton and included PC Lerry Mills.
According to the police, CPU officers conducted an intelligence-led exercise which resulted in the arrest of the estate constable.
He was subsequently charged by PC Mills.
This latest case now brings the total number of persons charged for breach of the Children’s Act for 2020 to 19.
The police service said yesterday that the CPU is once again emphasising that all reports of child abuse will be thoroughly investigated and has urged anyone who has information on child abuse matters to make a report to the unit.
