Mayor of Chaguanas, His Worship Faaiq Mohammed, says evil is prevailing in Trinidad and Tobago.
During his address at Divali Nagar celebrations in Chaguanas on Sunday night, Mayor Mohammed illustrated his point by highlighting recent, tragic news stories in which innocent people, including children, were either hurt or killed.
“A darkness is spreading. Last night, a 7-year-old boy was shot to death on a recreation ground while playing innocently with his friends. We saw the mayhem outside Pennywise Plaza where two security guards lost their lives, and a bullet grazed the face of a young boy. People are being shot and killed for parking spots and bad drives. The business community is under attack. Citizens are fearful for their lives and their livelihoods,” he said.

The Chaguanas Mayor sounded a note of optimism, however,
“We are on the eve of an auspicious occasion, which is Divali—which symbolizes the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance. Therefore, we need to embrace the message of Divali,” he urged, “to remove the darkness and negativity plaguing our society. We all know evil prevails when good people do nothing.”

Mayor Mohammed said good people must unite in the battle against the evil in T&T. according to the Chaguanas Mayor, just like the demon king Rawan from the Ramayan, evil people flaunt their ignorance with pride and show how uncaring and heartless they are.
“As citizens, we need to stand up and take action if we are to change and defeat the evil in society and our country,” he declared.
With regard to the Nagar, the Mayor said after two long years, many are happy to attend celebrations at the Nagar.
