Farmer, businessman held in Tobago drug bust

A busi­ness­man and a farmer were ar­rest­ed fol­low­ing a ma­jor drug bust in Bon Ac­cord on Thurs­day. 

Of­fi­cers seized large quan­ti­ties of il­le­gal drugs, cash, and drug-re­lat­ed equip­ment dur­ing an op­er­a­tion at Kil­gwyn Bay Road, near the Bon Ac­cord Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School.

The To­ba­go Di­vi­sion­al Task Force along with the Ca­nine Unit, con­duct­ed the op­er­a­tion be­tween 2 pm and 5 pm. It was led by ACP Os­wain Subero, co­or­di­nat­ed by Snr Supt Earl Elie, and spear­head­ed by ASP Lee­tang and Sgt Har­ris.

Po­lice said fol­low­ing weeks of sur­veil­lance and in­tel­li­gence as part of an SoE op­er­a­tion, of­fi­cers raid­ed the home and busi­ness place of the busi­ness­man. They seized 2,972 grammes of cannabis, 256 grammes of co­caine, 28 ec­sta­sy pills weigh­ing 15 grammes, and five grammes of a sub­stance be­lieved to be crys­tal meth. Of­fi­cers al­so found and con­fis­cat­ed pep­per spray, a pro­hib­it­ed weapon, as well as close to $400,000 and USD$355. Sev­er­al scales, a vac­u­um seal­er, and pack­ag­ing ma­te­ri­als were al­so seized.

Po­lice said a known nar­cotics of­fend­er, who was al­so at the lo­ca­tion, was searched, and of­fi­cers al­leged­ly found 14 grammes of co­caine in his pos­ses­sion.

Both men were ar­rest­ed for drug traf­fick­ing of­fences.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.
