This week, Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Brian Manning MP, continued his consultations on the proposed increase in the compulsory age of retirement from 60 to 65 years.
The minister met with The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T), as well as The Greater Tunapuna Chamber of Industry & Commerce (GTCIC), on Wednesday 13 July 2022.
A statement released by the Finance Ministry reports that Minister Manning, AMCHAM T&T and GTCIC representatives “held enlightening and impactful discussions surrounding the subject matter”.
The ministry says discussions with other stakeholders will continue in the near future.
Minister Manning has spent much of 2022 meeting with as many stakeholders as possible on the issue of reviewing the retirement age. His first meeting took place on February 23, with the National Union of Government and Federated Workers (NUGFW). Subsequent meetings were held with other trade union movement entities and business organisations.
