The man found floating in the Caroni River on Tuesday has been identified as Damian Nurse.
Police said Nurse had been missing for the past month.
His bloated and decomposing body was spotted among the reeds, wedged under some broken tree branches in the vicinity of the Caroni River Bridge, Southern Main Road, Caroni, around 1.45 pm.
A relative, who lived close to where Nurse resided in Couva, told Guardian Media he had moved to the area from Enterprise, Chaguanas, some years ago.
She said, “He was a humble person.”
The woman said although Nurse was unemployed, he was accustomed to liming at a bar in the Couva area.
She said he also suffered from epilepsy.
Foul play has not been ruled out just yet.
