Police have recovered a firearm believed to have been stolen from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station and detained three men during an anti-crime exercise in St James.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said officers of the Western Division Task Force and the Western Division Gang Investigation Unit made the discovery during Operation Steady GUARD on Monday between noon and 3 pm.
Officers searched premises along Upper Belle Vue Road, Long Circular, St James, under the Emergency Powers Regulations 2026. Three men were present at the location during the exercise.
During the search, officers recovered a black firearm resembling an M&P9 pistol with a defaced serial number. The weapon was loaded with four rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Police believe the firearm was among those stolen from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station on April 19.
The weapon is believed to be one of dozens taken during the April 19 heist at the station, during which Acting Corporal Anusha Eversley was killed.
Guardian Media previously reported that more than 40 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were recovered in the days following the incident, as police launched an extensive investigation into the breach and Eversley’s killing.
The recovery represents a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the theft of firearms from the police facility.
The operation was sanctioned by Senior Superintendent Williams and led by Acting Superintendent Mohammed, with coordination by Inspector Grant and supervision by Corporals Khan and Sahadath.
The three men were detained under Section 13(1) of the Emergency Powers Regulations 2026.
Officers of the Western Division Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the scene. Investigations are continuing.
