Five men have been sentenced to death by hanging, after a jury found them guilty of the kidnapping and murder of Dr Edward Khoury.
High Court Judge Malcolm Holdip passed sentence on Shawn James, Caleb Donaldson, Jerome Murray, Terry Moore and Robert Franklyn shortly after 8 last evening, more than six hours after he sent the jury to decide on a verdict.
When the court reconvened just before 6pm, Justice Holdip revealed that the jury had requested clarity concerning the evidence of one witness.
None of the accused offered a statement to the court when called upon after being sentenced.
On 21 September 2005, Dr Edward Khoury was abducted by four men, from his import and distribution company in the Macoya Industrial Estate.
Two days later, his decapitated body was found in an abandoned citrus plantation in Central Trinidad.
