Police officers arrested four suspects, and seized a submachine gun, as well as a quantity of marijuana on Tuesday, during the TTPS’ ongoing ramped-up anti-crime exercises across the country.
A statement from the Police Service reports that in the latest exercise, North-Eastern Division Task Force officers proceeded to the Petit Bourg district between 8 pm on Tuesday 30th and 12 am on Wednesday 31st July 2024. While there, the officers conducted a search of an abandoned building.
There, they found one HK UMP rifle under the wooden flooring of the structure.
Meanwhile, in the Western Division, officers of the Divisional Gang and Intelligence Unit—along with personnel from the West End Criminal Investigations Department—conducted an exercise between 2 pm and 5:30 pm on Tuesday (July 30, 2024).
The officers had received information concerning a report of larceny trick that had occurred on July 9, 2023. In that incident, a blue Hyundai Accent motor vehicle was stolen.
The information led police officers to the Carapichaima district.
There, they arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the report and recovered the vehicle.
Later on Tuesday, the same party of officers proceeded to the Port of Spain district, where they stopped a black Nissan Frontier motor vehicle with one male occupant.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 10 kilogrammes of marijuana.
A 39-year-old man of Sea Lots was arrested in connection with the find.
And, in the Southern Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise round 3:10 pm, yesterday, during which they stopped a white Toyota Aqua motor vehicle that was proceeding along Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 17 plastic bags containing 1.5 kilogrammes of marijuana.
Two men, ages 42 and 62 years, both of San Fernando, were arrested in connection with the find.
Investigations are ongoing into all the above matters.
