Five peo­ple were ar­rest­ed, two ri­fles, two gel blaster guns and quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion seized by of­fi­cers dur­ing on­go­ing State of Emer­gency Op­er­a­tions con­duct­ed in the East­ern, Port of Spain, North-East­ern and Cen­tral Di­vi­sions yes­ter­day.

In a me­dia re­lease the TTPS said, of­fi­cers of the Va­len­cia Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 4 pm and 7 pm, on Sat­ur­day 4th Jan­u­ary, 2025, which al­so in­clud­ed per­son­nel of the Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Unit, the War­rant Sec­tion and the Va­len­cia Po­lice Sta­tion.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, the of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to Cu­ber Street, Va­len­cia, where they con­duct­ed a search of a bushy area where they re­port­ed­ly found one high-pow­ered ri­fle and twen­ty rounds of 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion along with a quan­ti­ty of cannabis. Two male sus­pects, a 25-year-old and a 24-year-old, both of Va­len­cia, were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the finds.

Mean­while, an ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed in the Port of Spain and North East­ern Di­vi­sions by of­fi­cers of the In­ter-Agency Task Force, yes­ter­day. Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to the Mor­vant home of a fe­male sus­pect where they con­duct­ed a search. Dur­ing the search of­fi­cers al­leged­ly found a ri­fle and a mag­a­zine loaded with 26 rounds of 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion. The 32-year-old woman was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

The TTPS added that two men were ar­rest­ed and two gel blaster guns re­sem­bling that of firearms, seized fol­low­ing a po­lice in­volved shoot­ing in­ci­dent ear­ly this morn­ing.

It said of­fi­cers re­spond­ed to a re­port of six men be­ing ob­served with firearms in the Cunu­pia dis­trict around 12:20 am on Sun­day 5th Jan­u­ary, 2025 and con­duct­ed a search of the area. Of­fi­cers sub­se­quent­ly ob­served two men dressed in dark cloth­ing with ob­jects re­sem­bling firearms in their pos­ses­sion run­ning in their di­rec­tion. The of­fi­cers made known their pres­ence to the men and in­struct­ed them to drop the weapons. One of the men al­leged­ly fired the said ob­ject at the of­fi­cers, who in keep­ing with the Use of Force Pol­i­cy, fired back in the di­rec­tion of the as­sailant. The men dropped to the ground and were ar­rest­ed, while two Gel Blaster guns were seized. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing in­to the above mat­ters.
