A 67-year-old woman was tied up and robbed of several items, including her television sets and cooking gas tanks by a gunman who stormed her house.
Police said the woman had secured her home at Plus Gardens, Cocoyea Village, San Fernando, around 9 pm on Monday and went to sleep.
Later, around 2 am, she was jolted by a loud noise and then confronted by a man with a bandana over his face, who pointed a firearm at her and demanded money. He tied her hands and feet with duct tape and ordered her to remain on her bed.
She eventually managed to untie herself and found her 42-inch Samsung television, 75-inch Magnum television, 55-inch Samsung television, two LPG cooking gas tanks, and her cell phone missing.
Police said the burglar entered her home by removing the louvres of a window.
Officers from Mon Repos Police Station are investigating.
Rio Claro man abducted; policeman’s home robbed
A 31-year-old Rio Claro man was abducted in his own van, robbed of $29,000 and then left tied up in an isolated area in Central Trinidad.
The victim, a mechanical supervisor, told police he went to his co-worker’s home at Camden Road, Couva around 7.40 am on Monday and spoke briefly with him.
As he left he was confronted by two men, one armed with a gun.
The bandits bundled the man into his own Toyoya Hilux, tied his hands and feet and drove to an unknown location. They then robbed him of $29,000, a $9,000 iPhone 16 and a $3,000 grey Dell laptop. The assailants then ran off, leaving the victim behind. Police later detained two suspects, ages 53 and 43 years old from Couva.
In another incident, a policeman’s home was broken into and several items stolen.
Police said the 40-year-old officer and his wife of Jerningham Junction Road, Cunupia, secured their home around 7.50 am on Monday.
When they returned later that day, around 3.30 pm, they discovered the steal security door had been pried open.
The apartment was ransacked, and several items missing, including a PS5 controller, a cooling fan and charger, a projector, two drones, and an assortment of gold jewellery valued at $20,000.
Their money, including $1,200 in Canadian currency and $6000, was also missing.
Central Division police are investigating both incidents.
