The two suspects were transporting the weapons cache in a washing machine and dryer

Two peo­ple have been de­tained by po­lice af­ter be­ing caught at­tempt­ing to smug­gle arms and am­mu­ni­tion in a wash­ing-ma­chine.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, the ar­rests were made dur­ing an ex­er­cise con­duct­ed in the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion be­tween the hours of 6am and 10:30pm on Mon­day.

The ex­er­cise in­volved of­fi­cers at­tached to the North­ern Di­vi­sion An­ti-Gang Unit and the In­ter-Agency Task Force.

Po­lice say while at French St, Wright­son Road, Port of Spain, the of­fi­cers on ex­er­cise in­ter­cept­ed a white KIA H100 ve­hi­cle, which at the time was trans­port­ing a wash­ing ma­chine and dry­er.

Po­lice searched the ap­pli­ances and dis­cov­ered hid­den with­in them: one AR ri­fle, one AK 47 ri­fle, four mag­a­zines and 3,058 as­sort­ed rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

The two per­sons in the ve­hi­cle were de­tained for fur­ther ques­tion­ing.
