Two people have been detained by police after being caught attempting to smuggle arms and ammunition in a washing-machine.
According to police reports, the arrests were made during an exercise conducted in the Port of Spain Division between the hours of 6am and 10:30pm on Monday.
The exercise involved officers attached to the Northern Division Anti-Gang Unit and the Inter-Agency Task Force.
Police say while at French St, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain, the officers on exercise intercepted a white KIA H100 vehicle, which at the time was transporting a washing machine and dryer.
Police searched the appliances and discovered hidden within them: one AR rifle, one AK 47 rifle, four magazines and 3,058 assorted rounds of ammunition.
The two persons in the vehicle were detained for further questioning.
Investigations are ongoing.
