The Trinidad and To­ba­go Hous­ing De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion (HDC) is hop­ing to com­plete re­pair works on a sew­er sys­tem at Cy­press Hills, where a sink­hole de­vel­oped last Fri­day, by this Thurs­day, Sep­tem­ber 1, 2022.

An of­fi­cial state­ment from the com­pa­ny re­ports the sink­hole, which de­vel­oped on Fri­day, Au­gust 25, is the re­sult of es­caped pres­sur­ized waste­water from a leak­ing sew­er force main line.

“Im­me­di­ate­ly an HDC team was dis­patched to clean and se­cure the af­fect­ed area,” HDC ex­plains.  “The fol­low­ing morn­ing [Sat­ur­day], an as­sess­ment was con­duct­ed, and the main con­trac­tor was con­tact­ed to re­pair or re­place the faulty line.”

HDC says re­pair work be­gan on Mon­day, Au­gust 29.

“The HDC and its con­trac­tors are work­ing as­sid­u­ous­ly to re­solve this mat­ter,” the com­pa­ny as­sured.  

It added: “Work is ex­pect­ed to be com­plet­ed by Thurs­day, weath­er per­mit­ting.”
