Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh has revealed that he is yet to receive any word from PAHO officials on their probe into the deaths of several babies at the Port of Spain General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, earlier this year.

His admission comes just over three weeks after the three-member team from the Pan American Health Organisation concluded the in-country part of their investigation.

On April 22, the PAHO officials arrived in T&T to investigate the deaths of several babies which occurred between April 4th and 9th because of a bacterial infection at the NICU.

By April 26, the PAHO team members had returned to their respective territories to analyse data that had been sent electronically upon request.

Minister Deyalsingh previously assured that the findings of the PAHO-funded probe would be made public. However, he indicated it could take a while before the final report is submitted.

Since the initial cluster of baby deaths, other parents have come forward claiming their babies died due to negligence at the hospital's NICU.
