The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has issued an updated yellow level high wind alert for Trinidad and Tobago and surrounding waters, warning that breezy to windy conditions are expected to continue intermittently until tomorrow afternoon.
In a public warning message issued at 10.03 am today, the Met Office said gusts exceeding 55 kilometres per hour are likely, especially near showers. The conditions are expected to be more severe in eastern areas and along elevated terrain.
The Met Office warned that while the gusts may be brief, they could still displace unsecured roofs and loose outdoor items and break tree branches.
The alert, which took effect yesterday morning, remains in force until 2 pm tomorrow.
The Met Office also warned that sea conditions are expected to become agitated and may disrupt marine activities.
Members of the public have been advised to secure loose outdoor objects and livestock, while marine interests have been urged to exercise caution. Small craft operators have also been advised to restrict activity during the alert period.
Beachgoers have been urged to follow the instructions of lifeguards and continue monitoring official weather updates from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service.
