Cou­va South MP Rudranath In­dars­ingh says as Op­po­si­tion’s shad­ow mem­ber for labour, he is urg­ing Her Ex­cel­len­cy Chris­tine Kan­ga­loo, ORTT to clar­i­fy the cir­cum­stances and ra­tio­nale be­hind the non-re­new­al of the con­tract of the for­mer Pres­i­dent of the In­dus­tri­al Court, Mrs Deb­o­rah Thomas- Fe­lix.

In a me­dia re­lease In­dars­ingh said the na­tion­al com­mu­ni­ty has been rife with spec­u­la­tion, con­cern, con­spir­a­cy the­o­ries and ma­jor un­cer­tain­ty re­gard­ing the re­moval of the for­mer Pres­i­dent of the Court.

He said this un­cer­tain­ty threat­ens to un­der­mine con­fi­dence in the Court as a key play­er in the labour re­la­tions process, as well as un­der­mine the de­ci­sion-mak­ing process un­der­tak­en by Her Ex­cel­len­cy in the non-re­new­al of Mrs Thomas-Fe­lix’s con­tract.

The Cou­va South MP’s call comes days af­ter con­cerns were raised by the Joint Trade Union Move­ment (JTUM) and the Na­tion­al Trade Union Cen­tre (NATUC) about Pres­i­dent Chris­tine Kan­ga­loo’s de­ci­sion not to re­new the con­tract of for­mer pres­i­dent Deb­o­rah Thomas Fe­lix.

Thomas Fe­lix who was in Gene­va, Switzer­land was re­port­ed­ly called by Her Ex­cel­len­cy days be­fore her con­tract was about to ex­pire.

Yes­ter­day the Law As­so­ci­a­tion called for changes to be made in how judges are ap­point­ed to the In­dus­tri­al Court.
