This year's In­de­pen­dence Day pa­rade will be­gin at Memo­r­i­al Park, Port-of-Spain, in­stead of the tra­di­tion­al Queen's Park Sa­van­nah. The change is to fa­cil­i­tate mem­bers of the pub­lic who have been com­plain­ing over the years about the poor view they had of the pa­rade from the sa­van­nah. The an­nounce­ment was made yes­ter­day by De­fence Force War­rant Of­fi­cer Es­ther Daniel dur­ing a news con­fer­ence at which she al­so out­lined the for­mat for this year's event.

The con­fer­ence was held at the Min­istry of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty, Aber­crom­by Street, Port-of-Spain. The pa­rade will be­gin on Keate Street pro­ceed­ing north along Char­lotte Street, west along Queen's Park West, south in­to Chancery Lane, east in­to Keate Street, south along Fred­er­ick Street, west in­to Park Street, in­to Tra­garete Road and con­tin­ue in a west­er­ly di­rec­tion in­to the Po­lice Train­ing Col­lege in St James where the pa­rade ends.
