A po­lice of­fi­cer who was shot while re­spond­ing to a shoot­ing in east Port-of-Spain on Mon­day night is re­cov­er­ing at hos­pi­tal. A se­nior po­lice of­fi­cial yes­ter­day said that PC Shakala Charles of the Guard and Emer­gency Branch “is sta­ble at this time.”

The law­man was shot on St Paul Street, East Dry Riv­er, as he re­spond­ed to the shoot­ing of a 26-year-old man from North Post Road, Diego Mar­tin, on the same street.

That vic­tim, who re­mained in crit­i­cal con­di­tion at hos­pi­tal yes­ter­day, had gone to St Paul Street to take the moth­er of his chil­dren home af­ter they went out to cel­e­brate his birth­day.
