Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is urging citizens and visitors to have a safe Carnival.
In a statement, Mrs Persad-Bissessar said:
"Carnival 2023 marks the first major celebration of our national festival since the COVID-19 pandemic. As we celebrate, let's all be our brothers' keepers and watch out for one another. Please take heed of the safety guidelines listed by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service."
The Guidelines are: Wear minimal jewellery; travel in groups to and from activities; do not carry large amounts of cash; do not accept drinks from strangers or leave drinks unattended; and designate an alcohol-free driver to and from events.
The Opposition leader also reminded the population to remember that COVID-19 is still with us.
"Please take all necessary steps to protect yourself as advised by the Ministry of Health," she urged.
