Police are investigating a suspected drowning in Barrackpore, which took place last evening.
The deceased is 45-year-old Siewdass Rampadath, a labourer, of Cunjal South Trace, Barrackpore.
Guardian Media understands Rampadath was last seen around 2 pm on Wednesday by a few children from the village fishing near a lagoon.
When he failed to return home his relative, Paul Ramnath, went searching for him.
He found Rampadath submerged in the lagoon. Ramnath took Rampadath out of the water but he was already dead.
Investigations are continuing.
