Three-year-old Allon Ramdial was never registered at birth and now without a birth certificate, an autopsy on his body cannot be done.
This was confirmed by Mayaro MP Rushton Paray yesterday, who said arrangements are now being made for Allon’s mother, Christianna, 19, to do the necessary paperwork to process the document so the autopsy can be conducted next week.
He said, “The child has no birth certificate. The social worker is working with the mother to do an affidavit today (Friday) so they could take to the births and deaths registrar on Monday and hopefully, with that documentation, they will issue her a birth certificate.”
In the interim, Paray said the child’s autopsy has been put on hold.
He said the Ministry of Social Development will also be paying for the child’s funeral and arrangements have already been made with a funeral home in Rio Claro.
He said they are hoping that the autopsy will be done early next week so his funeral can take place by either Thursday or Friday.
Little Allon was living at the Ortoire Fishing Facility in Mayaro with his mother and stepfather.
It is believed that last Thursday, the child woke up before his mother and wandered off to the nearby jetty, a place he was accustomed to frequenting.
It is believed that he fell into the river.
When his mother awoke around 6.30 am, she did not see him and went searching for him. She alerted other villagers and the police who began searching for the child. They were joined by other national security agencies and the Hunters’ Search and Rescue Team.
Members of the hunters’ team and Mayaro lifeguards found the child’s body on Monday around 11.40 am in a cove near the river mouth, some 3,000 feet away from the jetty.
In a previous interview with Guardian Media, Ramdial explained that for more than two years, she, her common-law husband, Carl Murphy, and her son had been living at the fishing facility. She said she lived at the St Jude’s Children’s Home before running away at age 14. She was staying at a cousin’s house but at age 15 she got pregnant by a man while she was under the influence of alcohol. She never saw the man again. However, she claimed her cousin put her out after she realised she was pregnant. Ramdial then returned to her father’s hometown in Mayaro, where she met Murphy who is a fisherman.
