The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (RDLG) has activated a comprehensive national response to Adverse Weather Alert #2 – Yellow Level, which remains in effect from 6:00 PM on Saturday, May 17, to 6:00 PM on Monday, May 19, 2025.

The alert was issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) in anticipation of continued heavy rainfall and the associated risks.

Over the past 24 hours, several regions across Trinidad have experienced localized flooding, including areas under the Diego Martin Borough Corporation, Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation, San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation, Sangre Grande Regional Corporation, Chaguanas Borough Corporation, Princes Town Regional Corporation, and Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.

In response, the Ministry said it has deployed all 14 Municipal Corporations’ Disaster Management Units (DMUs) to manage incidents on the ground.

These units are currently addressing multiple weather-related challenges, including landslides, fallen trees, and flash flooding.

RDLG has also mobilized its assets to assist Municipal Corporations and is conducting continuous field assessments to identify and prioritize critical areas requiring intervention.

The Ministry reports that coordination with first responders, utility providers, and local authorities is facilitating a swift and effective emergency response.

The Ministry has also extended an invitation to volunteer groups and corporate partners to support relief efforts and recommends they coordinate with local Councillors and Municipal Corporations.
