A Sangre Grande man has been granted $100,000 bail after appearing before the South High Court on charges linked to a missing police firearm from the Mayaro police station.
Azam Ali appeared before Master Raydon Dalrymple-Watts yesterday, charged with misbehaviour in public office, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
The court granted bail with surety and ordered Ali to remain at his Sangre Grande home, surrender his passport within two days of securing bail and refrain from obtaining travel documents.
The matter is scheduled for a status hearing on October 29.
Police said the charges stem from an investigation launched after a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) firearm and ammunition were reported missing from the Mayaro police station on July 29.
Investigators later recovered the firearm, magazine and ammunition.
Ali is the second person charged in the matter.
A police constable with nine months’ service was previously charged with misbehaviour in public office.
