A 34-year-old man is expected to appear in a virtual hearing before a Rio Claro Magistrate today, charged with 15 offences arising out of an alleged shooting incident that occurred along Brothers Road in Rio Claro, last Saturday.
Labourer VISHNU GOPIE, also called ROHAN GOPIE, of Leeking Trace, Brothers Road, was arrested and charged on September 2nd by PC Mahadeo of the Rio Claro Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The charges include three counts of Shooting with Intent; two counts of Possession of a Firearm, Ammunition, Firearm to Endanger Life Ammunition to Endanger Life; Discharging a Firearm within 40 metres of a Public Road; and Malicious Damage, respectively.
According to an official statement issued by the Police Service, Vishnu Rohan Gopie was the lone suspect in connection with a September 2nd police report, in which an armed man was alleged to have stood about 100 feet away from a family’s home and fired shots at the occupants.
The occupants later retreated to safety and the suspect left the scene.
Police later responded to the report, and upon arriving at the location, observed the front glass window was shattered and several shotgun pellets were lodged in the wooden partition to the inside of the family’s home.
Further investigations conducted by the Rio Claro CID, led by Sgt Maharaj, resulted in the arrest of the suspect who was later charged with multiple offences.
