A Point Fortin man has been arrested following a report from a local teacher who was allegedly threatened with the release of a sexually explicit video.
The suspect is accused of extorting a total of $3,800 TTD from the victim over several weeks.
Police say the 55-year-old teacher, whose identity has not been released, contacted authorities after a man he knew allegedly sent him multiple threatening messages.
According to the report, the suspect demanded money in exchange for not releasing the private video.
The teacher reported meeting the man on five separate occasions in Point Fortin to make payments.
After an intensive investigation by the Anti-Extortion Unit of the South Western Division, police executed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation in the Point Fortin district on Friday.
During the operation, officers arrested a 32-year-old man from Fanny Village, Point Fortin.
He is currently assisting police with their inquiries and faces potential charges of six counts of demanding money with menaces and five counts of simple robbery.
The operation was coordinated by Assistant Commissioner of Police Pierre and supervised by Sergeant Bacchus, Corporal Baksh, and Corporal Rampersad.
