A man has been sentenced to a little over three years in prison after admitting to sexually assaulting a woman during a home invasion in 2017.
Eric Carrington pleaded guilty to grievous sexual assault in June but was only recently sentenced by High Court Judge Gail Gonzales.
Carrington was accused of attacking the victim on September 22, 2017.
She was sleeping at her boyfriend’s apartment in Claxton Bay when Carrington, who was armed with a knife, entered.
He took a small quantity of cash that was on the kitchen counter and attempted to rob the victim, who did not have any cash or valuables on her.
He then sexually assaulted her before leaving.
She made a report to the police and Carrington was arrested hours later.
He was charged after the victim pointed him out in an identification parade.
In deciding that Carrington should serve three years, three months and 15 days before he could be released, Justice Gonzales gave him credit for the time he spent in prison after pleading guilty and before being sentenced.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release and report to the police every three months for ten years.
The Commissioner of Police was directed to publish Carrington’s name and details of his conviction on the public sex offenders’ website.
Carrington was represented by Michelle Ali, of the Public Defenders Department (PDD).
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was represented by Kern Young.
