A 45-year-old man was killed after he was knocked down by a taxi yesterday morning.
Police reported that around 5.10 am, a 45-year-old taxi driver of Braithwaite Lane, El Socorro, was driving along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, near Valsayn North, when he was struck by another vehicle.
The driver told police when he stopped he noticed a man lying on the ground and that the left side of his windshield was shattered.
Police later identified the victim as Frank Ali, of Goya Road, El Dorado.
Meanwhile, doctors have told police that an 18-month-old boy, who was knocked down on Saturday night by a van driven by a police officer, did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
Police reported that around 11.45 pm on Saturday, the officer, who is assigned to the Port-of-Spain Task Force, was heading south on Lopinot Road, near the Eastern Main Road, when he reportedly saw a child dart in front of the vehicle.
The officer said he attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the toddler but still came into contact with him.
The child was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex together with his parents.
The child suffered multiple abrasions about the body and a minor fracture to the back of the head and under the right eye. Police reported that medical staff assured the injuries were not life-threatening.
