A Penal mechanic is now dead after his motorcycle collided with a car on Monday night.
According to police, medics at the Siparia District Health Facility made several attempts to resuscitate Brent Alexander after the accident.
However, the 30-year-old, from Grant Trace, Morne Diablo, died almost 90 minutes after the accident.
A police report stated that around 6.30 pm, a 70-year-old retiree was driving his Nissan Cube East along Grant Trace. As the retiree reached LP#4, he saw Alexander on his motorcycle, heading in the opposite direction. As Alexander reportedly tried to go around a bend, the motorcycle skidded on the roadway, causing him to lose control.
The retiree told a team of investigators, led by Insp Ali and Sgt Ganesh, that when he saw Alexander skidding across the road he pulled to the left and stopped his car. However, the motorcycle struck his car and the impact threw Alexander in a grassy area off the road. The retiree was not injured.
Paramedics and Penal police responded to calls from residents.
Alexander was declared dead close to 8 on Monday while receiving emergency care.
A wrecker moved both vehicles to the Penal Police Station for processing as an investigation continues.
