‘Meth’ among narcotics and firearms seized in police exercises

Four per­sons were ar­rest­ed and three firearms and quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion and nar­cotics seized dur­ing ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed across sev­er­al Di­vi­sions yes­ter­day.

In the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise in the Cou­va and Freeport dis­tricts be­tween 11 am and 2 pm, on Feb­ru­ary, 27 dur­ing which one man was ar­rest­ed for pos­ses­sion of a quan­ti­ty of cannabis.

The of­fi­cers then pro­ceed­ed to the Clax­ton Bay dis­trict, where they con­duct­ed a search of an aban­doned pig pen. There, they found one re­volver loaded with five rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

In the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 4 pm and 7 pm, on Thurs­day. Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers went to a bar along the South­ern Main Road, Cunu­pia where they con­duct­ed a search, re­sult­ing in the own­er of the es­tab­lish­ment be­ing ar­rest­ed for pos­ses­sion of a quan­ti­ty of metham­phet­a­mine. The sus­pect was al­so found to be op­er­at­ing the bar with­out a valid liquor li­cense while an il­le­gal gam­bling ma­chine was found on the premis­es. The man was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the of­fences.

In the North­ern Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 4 am and 10 am, yes­ter­day, dur­ing which they pro­ceed­ed to the Ari­ma home of a 32-year-old sus­pect. Of­fi­cers dis­cov­ered of a quan­ti­ty of cannabis on the premis­es. The sus­pect, who was in the house at the time of the search, was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

The of­fi­cers then pro­ceed­ed to an apart­ment at Emer­ald Gar­dens, where they found the fol­low­ing items:

-One Glock 45 pis­tol,

-41 rounds of as­sort­ed am­mu­ni­tion, and,

-A quan­ti­ty of cannabis with an es­ti­mat­ed street val­ue of close to TT$200,000.

Two sus­pects, a 62-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman who were in the apart­ment at the time of the search, were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the finds.

In the South­ern Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers in the St. Mary’s dis­trict, pro­ceed­ed to Saun­ders Trace where they con­duct­ed a search, re­sult­ing in the dis­cov­ery of one shot­gun and one 16-gauge car­tridge.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing in­to all of the above mat­ters.
