Following the announcement by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley that the Parliamentary Caucus had supported Energy Minister Stuart Young to replace him as Prime Minister when he steps down, Guardian Media spoke with citizens in Port-of-Spain to get their reactions to the decision.

I don’t see him as a leader. He don’t have the leader qualities. He is a greenhorn.
Laylanne Taitt,
administrator, Arima
I would quicker go with Pennelope Beckles. That is just my choice. I don’t think (he is) a warm kind of person, an approachable person, he would not be my first pick.
Indra Seenath,
accountant, Chaguanas
I think he is a good replacement and he would do us well.
Charles,
self-employed, Maraval
(Dr Keith) Rowley right now is not the favourite to run the party. A lot of people disappointed how he running the country and with the crime and all that. We are hoping Stuart Young would do a better job.
Tony Ramkay, pest control manager, Chaguanas
Let us see if it is a good move. I wish he do something good to help the people in T&T now because it is a lot of crime taking place. If he could do something that is a change, that would be very nice.
Garfield Winston, teacher, Arima
I think the experience he has been rushed in such a short space of time and secondly, I don’t think he fits the bill in terms of his demeanour and his approach to politics.
