Member of Parliament for Couva North Ravi Ratiram is calling on the Works & Transport Minister, Rohan Sinanan to have the debris and concrete rubble at the base of the Roopsingh Road Bridge urgently cleared.

The following is a press release from the MP:

The concrete base of the Roopsingh Road Bridge has now entirely collapsed into the La Cuesa river and Couva North MP Ratiram is calling on Works & Transport Minister, Rohan Sinanan to have the debris and concrete rubble at the base of the Bridge urgently cleared.

Less than two weeks ago when the concrete base of the Roopsingh Road Bridge partially collapsed, a works team from the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation set out to clear the rubble that fell into the river beneath the bridge.

As a consequence of the heavy and continuous flow of water from the significant rainfall over the past two (2) weeks, there is now a substantial build-up of silt and debris under the bridge, impeding the regular flow of water (see attached pictures).

Following a visit to the site today, MP Ratiram notes that since the incident on November 10th, the fallen concrete base is still lodged in the riverbed under the bridge since the Regional Corporation does not possess the equipment to remove such a huge obstruction.

The MP also says that the situation was brought to the attention of the Works and Transport Minister. On November 11th, 2022, a media release was issued by the Couva North MP, calling on Rural Development and Local Government Minister, Faris Al Rawi to provide a permanent solution. MP Ratiram reminds motorists that in the interim, only vehicles under five tonnes (5T) should use the bridge and to exercise caution when making their way across.
