The community of La Paille Gardens in Caroni will soon be able to use their play park and recreation ground which over the years have been neglected by the authorities.
Thanks to the effort of Member of Parliament for Chaguanas
West Dinesh Rambally and a group of civic minded citizens, the
eight-acre space will be reclaimed and utilised for what it was initially intended.
On Sunday, the group armed with a wacker,
cutlasses, rakes, gloves, and tall boots went to the recreation
area and said they were shocked to see the extent of work to be undertaken.
They said bush almost five feet tall covered the entire recreation ground and the playpark swings, slides and other exercise equipment were rusted, dilapidated and clearly not safe to use.
A RESIDENT of La Paille Gardens speaks with her Member of Parliament Dinesh Rambally (Chaguanas West) who is leading a to reclaim and beautify a playground in the district.
"MP Rambally was able to obtain the use of a tractor brush-cutter which literally cleared the tall bush over several hours, while the manual help assisted in the beautification process.
He said the La Paille Village Park was the first of several community projects which he will be personally piloting with the help of his group which has been well-received by residents.
Many came out to speak with the MP on his initiative and told him about their experience of using the play park and recreation ground before it was abandoned and overtaken by vegetation," a statement from the constituency office said.
“We will be clearing up the bushes and trying to make the playpark useable again. Some of the equipment may have to be replaced because a lack of maintenance and the effects of the elements,” said Rambally.
